Scotty Edward Chabert Jr.
Scotty E. Chabert, Jr. served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Honorable Richard J. Ward in the 18th Judicial District for 11 years and Honorable Tony Clayton for nearly a year, prosecuting felony crimes including murder, rape and burglaries. Now, Scotty is a partner at the firm of Saunders & Chabert and his primary focus is representing plaintiffs involved in serious injury or wrongful death matters, with an emphasis on maritime and industrial accidents.
Scotty is a native of Cut Off, Louisiana, and attended Louisiana State University for his undergraduate studies receiving a B.A. in Arts and Science in December of 2002. He received his Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center in 2006 where he proudly served as a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association (“ATLA”) Trial Team. Scotty became licensed to practice law in Louisiana in 2006 and Mississippi in 2007. He is a member of the Louisiana Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association and the Mississippi State Bar.
Scotty is a past Chairman of the Belly Up with the Bar Committee of the Baton Rouge Bar Association, a past President of the Baton Rouge Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Section and a past Chairman of the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. In 2013, he received the Baton Rouge Bar Association’s President’s Award for his service to the Baton Rouge Bar Association and to the public. In 2017, he was honored as one of Capital City’s Finest in connection with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s annual fundraising. In 2018, Scotty was named one of Baton Rouge Business Report’s 40 under 40 and a Distinguished Alumnus of Southern University Law Center.
Scotty served as a member of the Baton Rouge Port Commission, having been appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards in 2016. He is a member of First United Methodist Church where he teaches 4th grade Sunday School. He is married to Katie Dampier Chabert, also an attorney, and they have twins, Jack and Cecile, and a younger daughter, Annie. To support his children and their education, Scotty is currently serving as a member of the University Lab School Foundation’s Board and has served as the chair of the University Lab School’s Annual Appeal Fundraising Campaign.
