Attorney Profile

Henri M. Saunders

Our senior partner, Henri M. Saunders, has over 25 years of experience in the practice of personal injury law, with an emphasis in maritime and industrial accidents. Henri is a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, and attended Louisiana State University for undergraduate studies, where he was a member of two national championship baseball teams (1991 and 1993). Henri received his Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center in 1997, and served as a staff attorney for the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal before entering private practice. He is proud to say he has never represented large corporations or insurance companies; rather, he has focused his entire career on helping people faced with unfortunate circumstances.

Before attending law school, Henri worked as a laborer in the oilfield industry, in shipyards and offshore, where he earned a true appreciation of how dangerous this type of work can be. Henri now has a passion for maritime law.

As a two-time national champion pitcher for LSU, Henri takes this competitive spirit into each case he handles, and as a boat captain himself, he is keenly familiar with the hazards encountered on the water. He has secured numerous multi-million dollar recoveries for injured victims. One example is the case of Kelvin Dunn v. Marquette Transportation Company. Mr. Dunn served Marquette as a boat captain for years, until he was severely injured in the engine room of a Marquette vessel, which had been negligently maintained. Mr. Dunn was attempting to address an emergent diesel leak when he slipped and fell, resulting in a broken femur and back injury. Rather than take responsibility for its unseaworthy vessel, Marquette attempted to blame Mr. Dunn for the accident. The case was tried in federal court in New Orleans, where the presiding judge found Marquette solely responsible for the accident and awarded Mr. Dunn over $3,400,000.00 in damages. This judgment was affirmed at the appellate court, and the U.S. Supreme Court refused to take up the case. See additional case summaries and outcomes on our Results Page.

Henri is a member of the Louisiana Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, the Louisiana State Bar Association and Baton Rouge Bar Association. He is licensed to practice in all Louisiana state courts, as well as the United States Eastern, Middle and Western District Courts of Louisiana, the United States 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Henri has been married over 25 years to the love of his life, Karen, and they have three daughters, Lauren, Catherine and Rachel.

Henri has served for many years as a school board member, coach, and he remains active in his community. He sees the practice of law as an honor and a privilege, and in an effort to give back he has provided countless hours of pro-bono legal services for those in need.
